How to calculate salary

This salary calculator converts an annual salary into monthly, weekly, daily and hourly estimates. It is based on gross pay before tax and deductions.

Formula used

The main calculation is:

Monthly salary = annual salary ÷ 12

The hourly estimate is calculated by dividing annual salary by estimated working hours per year.

Example: £36,000 salary

Annual salary = £36,000
Monthly salary = £36,000 ÷ 12 = £3,000
Weekly salary = £36,000 ÷ 52 = £692.31

If someone works 37.5 hours per week, the estimated hourly rate is:

£36,000 ÷ 1,950 hours = £18.46 per hour

Estimated monthly salary = £3,000.00

What this calculator is for

Gross salary and take-home pay

Gross salary is your pay before deductions. Take-home pay is what remains after deductions such as income tax, National Insurance, pension contributions or student loan repayments.

This calculator does not estimate tax. For after-tax estimates, use a take-home pay or PAYE calculator.
