How to calculate macros

Macros, or macronutrients, are the main nutrients that provide energy: carbohydrates, protein and fat. A macro calculator estimates how many grams of each macronutrient may fit within a daily calorie target.

This calculator uses percentage-based macro splits. It converts calories into grams using common energy values: carbohydrates and protein provide around 4 calories per gram, while fat provides around 9 calories per gram.

Example: 2,000 calories with a balanced split

A balanced split of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat would divide 2,000 calories as follows:

Carbohydrates: 800 calories ÷ 4 = 200g
Protein: 600 calories ÷ 4 = 150g
Fat: 600 calories ÷ 9 = 67g

What this calculator is for

This macro calculator helps estimate daily carbohydrate, protein and fat targets from a calorie amount. It may be useful for general nutrition awareness, meal planning, fitness tracking or understanding how calorie targets can be divided between macronutrients.

The result should be treated as a general estimate, not a personalised nutrition plan. Individual needs can vary depending on age, body size, activity level, health status, goals, training, medication and other factors.

Important note

This calculator is for general informational purposes only and should not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet, exercise routine, hydration, weight management or lifestyle, especially if you have a medical condition, take medication, are pregnant, or have specific health concerns.
